Mission Statement:
The mission of the Abravanel, Duarte and Verdugo International Sephardic Foundation is to promote scholarship and education on Sephardic history, identify and support Anusim, and work towards building peace in the community. We recognize that we live in a diverse world, and our foundation aims to work with all communities regardless of their ethnicities. Our primary goal is to promote tolerance, harmony, and understanding among individuals of various religious and ethnic backgrounds.
Guiding Principles:
Our foundation is guided by principles from the Torah and Talmud, which emphasize the importance of unity, peace, and cooperation. Our approach to peace building is rooted in the Jewish philosophy of Tikkun Olam, which emphasizes repairing the world. We believe that every individual has a responsibility to work towards building a better and more just society. Our foundation encourages interfaith dialogue and cooperation, recognizing the universal value of striving for peace.
Focus:
Our foundation's primary focus is to promote scholarship and education on Sephardic history. We aim to educate individuals about the contributions of Sephardic Jews to our shared history and heritage. We also recognize the importance of supporting Anusim, individuals who are descendants of Jews who were forced to convert to other religions, and often denied their Jewish identity. Our foundation works towards identifying, supporting, and empowering Anusim and fostering a sense of pride in their Jewish heritage.
Community Building:
The foundation recognizes the importance of building bridges within the community, and we support initiatives that bring individuals from diverse backgrounds together. We work towards peace building by recognizing leaders who demonstrate a commitment to promoting tolerance and understanding. We are committed to building synagogues and centers that are welcoming and inclusive of all people. Our foundation also supports initiatives such as Michael's House to support the LGBTQ community, recognizing that everyone has a place in the Jewish community, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
